“Location, Location, Location!”
Local friends recommended this hotel for it's central and convinient location to all the interesting things about Madrid. Walking to and back from major sites, catching the metro, grabing a beer or a quick meal, or even doing a little grocery shopping was within minutes from our hotel. The staff was helpful, although few spoke English, even getting irritated at times. The hotel seemed to come in two versions: the old, "classic European" and the new, "ultra modern New Art". The classic was cheaper and definitely more charming. And spacious. There was a bit of renovation going on in our older section, but when you are out on tour most of the day and night , it isn't a big deal and it should be completed soon. The buffet breakfast was a bit over priced. When one eats late like the Spanish do, the coffee and continental breakfast across the street is all you need. We had trouble with our internet access, as well as international phone calls. The technition couldn't fix it. All and all, we would recommend the Mecure Madrid Santo Domingo, and even return ourselves as these little annoyances do mend in time, and it is very well located.
“Upgrade to a superior room or don't stay here!!!”
We nicknamed this the Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde Hotel. It is 2 hotels in one. The classic rooms are WORSE then a Motel 6. The carpets are dirty, the rooms smelled and the view out of the window (if you could get to the window) was a courtyard with people drying their clothes. DO NOT BOOK A CLASSIC ROOM or you will be very sorry. The superior side of the hotel which is new, modern and very nice is only a few euros more in cost but a polar opposite of the classic side. The rooms have very comfortable beds, new and modern bathrooms and very fast free internet. If you are going to stay at this hotel BOOK A SUPERIOR ROOM! Luckily the hotel had superior rooms available to upgrade us or we would have called Expedia to find us a new hotel. The classic rooms were that bad and for what they charged for a classic room was a crime. The area is great - the Metro station is steps away from the front door to the hotel. The Gran Via is one block away and the Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol are only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. For location this hotel is excellent. Also directly across the street from the hotel are 2 cafes which serve excellent breakfast for around 6 euros. The hotel has a breakfast buffet that is 14 euros or they will discount to 10 euros if you have breakfast there each day of your stay. We opted for the cafes around the hotel which were great.
“Good location; construction challenges”
This hotel is in the process of combining two side-by-side hotels into one. Our room was in the older "Santo Domingo" section of the hotel and was quite small. This was OK though, as we didn't spend much time in the room. with our out-and-about agenda. The room was clean, with nice appointments, and well-serviced. Given the state of the construction efforts to combine the two structures, it was a bit inconvenient getting from the street/lobby to our room and back. That inconvenience should be overcome soon. The location is terrific with a Metro entrance within 50 steps of the hotel and decent restaurants and markets nearby,.
“Amazing value for a 4* hotel.”
Hotel was clean - in an excellent location. Soon as we walked in , my girlfriend was wondering if we were at the wrong hotel. 4* and for a very cheap price was to good to be true. Room was bit small , but all essentials were there, very clean , the shower was good and bathroom was big. I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Madrid.
“I will never, never will back again”
The only good thing about this 1900 hotel is the location and the staff, thats it. Their many better hotel around this one, they your time before you select this Santo Domingo.
“Fascinante decoración”
El gusto por la decoración me fascinó. He estudiado interiorismo y del Hotel he cogido muchas ideas que no había visto nunca en ningún otro Hotel. El cabecero horizontal cubriendo toda la pared junto con dos cristales verticales a los lados una cristalera total en la pared de enfrente le da una luminosidad a la habitación especial. Nunca había visto un baño así, con la pared acristalada que protegía un tapiz en color beige con detalles en terciopelo negro. Desde luego que si te gusta la elegancia y la originalidad, yo recomiendo hotel sin duda alguna.
“Hotel Diferente”
Un muy buen hotel y con muchas cosas diferentes al resto. Una de las cosas que más me gustó fue el desayuno, uno se pone nervioso de ver tanta comida rica. Lo probé durante 2 días que estuve allí y la verdad es que no hubo nada que no me gustase. Un buffet magnífico.
“Hotel Sorprendente”
Los viajes de trabajo son muy duros por eso siempre intento alojarme en hoteles céntricos y sorprendentes. Estas dos cualidades son sin duda las que tiene el Hotel Santo Domingo. Céntrico porque esta en la Plaza de Santo Domingo, a lado de la Gran Vía, el Palacio Real, la Puerta del Sol, etc. Estás a un paso de todo, pero si tienes que irte un poco más lejos, tienes 2 líneas de metro a un paso (Gran Vía, Callao y Santo Domingo). Y sorprendente y novedoso por, entre otras cosas, sus habitaciones. Me dieron una habitación que a mi me encantó. La cama era grande y encima de ella había un dosel en tapiz gris en contraste con las paredes blanca decoradas con vinilos gris oscuro con forma de marco. Además el baño me pareció muy peculiar: acristalado, algo que no había visto.
