Not worth it
We have stayed in summerhouses all over Iceland and found this place disappointing. It was advertised as "sleeps 8," but we were three adults and one kid but found it quite cramped. We had to request to get enough bedding for us all. It was advertised as a full kitchen, but it had a mini fridge, only three burners, and only two small pots, so cooking a meal for four required doing so in two parts. It had a table for two. The shower and bathroom sink didn't drain, so we didn't even feel we could take real showers there and went to the pool instead. Though advertised as being 15 minutes from Borgarnes, it was more than 20 minutes down a rough gravel road just to get to the main road, and then 15 minutes to town. The house is in need of overall maintenance (painting, fixing of windows so they close fully, plumbing, etc.) and more thorough cleaning between guests (dust bunnies and stickiness throughout house). However, there were beautiful areas to hike nearby and absolutely gorgeous views.

Biggi was so helpful and welcoming via email. We had a large group and maxed out the beds, so it was a little tight, but it held us all well. The kitchen was great and the view incredible. Would love to go back and see the Aurora.

This place was too cramped for our family of 4. We could hear creaky noises when one of us woke up and moved about in the cabin. On the upside, the owner was gracious about making sure we checked in smoothly and had communicated everything well.

Wonderful cabin in nature
Wow! What a beautiful setting for an adorable cabin. The mountains all around are so beautiful at every time of day. We watched the northern lights on the porch and watched snow flurries in the morning. The kitchen had everything you need and lighting the candles in the evening set the perfect cozy getaway vibe. Would definitely recommend staying here to get some relaxing downtime.

I spent one night there with my two adult children as we drove around Iceland. The cabin is about 45 minutes outside of Borgannes and is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Great views! We made dinner in the kitchen area and used the gas grill to cook chicken. We found the kitchen/dining/sitting area a bit tight for the three of us -- maybe it was the amount of stuff we needed to bring in (!). Thanks so much!

Beautiful cabin that isn't your typical Iceland stay. Felt immediately at home and at ease. Spacious and welcoming! A bit of a rough gravel road to get there but that isn't out of the norm for Iceland. The owner was incredibly accommodating and thoughtful in an extensive write up on the property and area. Perfect Location in Cozy, Inviting Cottage
We loved our stay at Múlakot 2 Cabin. It was the perfect spot for our family of four to see Iceland's west region. It's close to Borgarnes to shop for groceries and check out the Settlement Museum. When we came back to our cabin, we had everything we needed to make meals. The beds were comfy and our teen loved the loft space. The directions, tips, recommendation, and cabin how-tos were not only helpful but fun to read. We hope we can come back again in the winter to see the Northern Lights.

A cozy and cute cabin
We only stayed for a night but the whole experience was seamless. The kids loved watching tv up in the loft while the adults hung out below . So impressed with the quality of the decorating and furnishings. We were lucky enough to hit lupine season and the cabin was surrounded by flowers too!

Well managed property near Borgarnes, Iceland.
We stayed here for one night. We had~30 hours in Iceland prior to a ship voyage to Norway and spent our time seeing the Snaefellsnes peninsula and hiking to Glymur waterfall. We were four guests (two couples: my wife and I from Colorado, my brother and his wife from Vermont). The property was very clean, fully functional, and was as advertised. It has beautiful views to the southwest (toward Reykjavik) and East (towards Snaefellsnes peninsula). Be aware it is about 6 miles (12 km) off the highway on a well-maintained gravel road. The bedrooms are very small-- enough room for a double bed and a small walking path to the bed. They were fine for us. The loft and main room have futons/converitble couches. Eight would be cosy-- the space was good for our party of four. Thanks to the host for a nice stay.

We had a great time at the cabin! It was very clean and well stocked! Enough room for a family of four (kids 19 and 16). We went on some great hikes straight from the house and got to see our neighbors, the Icelandic horses, daily. The cabin was in a great location and we were able to head into Borgarnes when needed, as well as head into the western fjords and the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

Great house!
While slightly off the beaten path (gravel road isn't that bad), this house has everything you need -- great views, peaceful, wonderful decorations, comfy bedrooms, fully-stocked kitchen, you name it. My family and I would definitely stay here again. FYI, my wife and I worked a few hours while we were here and didn't have any problems.

If I could give more than 5 stars to Biggi and his team, I would! I do not have a single bad thing to say about the property or my stay. It was perfect in every way. The cabin was so warm (even during a couple snow storms) and comfortable. So much attention to detail was paid. The beds were comfortable. The cabin was very spacious and well stocked. And everything was very clean. It was very easy to find/access even by myself travelling at night and it is very private with great views. I actually spent a day or two just enjoying the comfort of the cabin, that’s how cosy it was. It is about 75 minutes drive into the capital but it never felt like a long drive due to the amazing views along the way. My only regret is that I didn’t stay longer, but I am already planning to return in a couple of months. Thank you for making a dream of mine come true and making it a perfect experience. I am very thankful to Biggi and his team. I also appreciated the email from Biggi letting me know there was a fantastic northern lights show going on that was viewable from my cabin.

Gorgeous location with breathtaking views in a cozy cabin
We loved our time here. The cabin is adorable and cozy. It is small but was very comfortable for our family of four. It was a welcome place to come home to after a day of touring. Borgannes is a great restocking town and the Snæfellsjökull Peninsula is breathtakingly beautiful. . We enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, and exploring during our time here. We had a few problems with the electricity and hot water heater while we were there which resulted in a couple of days of cold showers. However, the owners were on top of things and did their best to repair the problem as quickly as possible. Communication is great, and the directions are awesome. I would stay here again in a minute and I will definitely recommend to anyone visiting the western part of Iceland.

Fantastic information from the owner with perfect directions. The cabin is in an incredibly peaceful location with superb views. Access is along a 12km gravel road so a car is essential. Lovely cabin, very clean, well appointed and comfortable. Good location for Snaefellnes peninsula, Reykholt and not too far from Reykjavik. We had a wonderful few days here.

Beautifully presented, comfortable cottage.
We were a family of 6 (4 teenagers) staying for 5 nights. First off - the communication provided by Jon and Biggi was excellent. They had covered everything we needed to know about the property and the surrounding attractions. Secondly - don't be afraid to stay in the middle of winter - the scenery was stunning! We stayed 5 nights which meant we experienced all weather - including rain, snow and sunshine. The cabin was toasty warm. The temps ranged between -6 degrees to +6 which meant driving conditions were sometimes not great. We only had a 2 wheel drive with winter tyres but had no trouble on any of the roads, even the unsealed ones. The cabin is about an hour's drive from Reykjavik and most other attractions - but the drives are stunning!! We had no trouble buying supplies in Borgarnes. It was a lot of fun chatting to the locals in the shops to try and work out what was what - as there was very little English translation on packaging. We basically ate loads of fish the whole time because the quality was superb! It was a bit of a shock to only experience 4 hours of sunlight each day, so we learnt to make the most of it by setting off in the dark and driving home in the dark. We also loved witnessing a NYE from the cottage as we had a spectacular view looking towards the far off towns as they unleashed about 90 minutes of fireworks. We bought some of our own (still legal there) and the 4 teenage boys delighted in setting them off! We also saw the Northern lights from our cabin on NYE. It happened to be my son's 21st birthday that night as well, so all in all - an amazing evening!! Iceland is an incredible destination and we are all very keen to come back and see it again. I would definitely stay at Mulakot Cabins again and highly recommend them!
