There was no one at the front desk. We waited in the lobby for 12 minutes and called the property a few times while waiting. We finally called Expedia and during our seventh minute on the phone with Expedia the desk clerk strolled into the lobby followed by a young woman putting her clothes together. The clerk was visibly high and had difficulty getting behind the counter. He tried to climb over, then decided to go under a barrier and fell on his ass. I asked him if he "worked here". He responded "Why?" When we told him that we'd been waiting for almost 20 minutes he said he'd only been gone for two!
When we told him that was not true he became aggressive and confrontational. We told him that we wanted to cancel the reservation. He refused to do so. This all occurred while we were on the phone with Expedia. Not comfortable with the situation, we left the hotel. Expedia later refunded the reservation. Had we more time we would have involved the police as we also witnessed a drug transaction right outside the lobby doors and a second involving the same vehicle while we sat in the parking lot looking for an alternate hotel. The young woman - who appeared to be wasted - came outside and took a photo of us we sat in our car searching other properties. The whole experience was disturbing.
