Description

Enjoy a full-day tour that takes you out of the city and into the scenic Mallorcan mountains. Hike a historic trail, visit seaside villages along the way, relax on a hidden beach, and enjoy a seaside picnic lunch of typical Mallorcan treats.

After meeting your guide, ride a comfortable local bus to the start of the mountain trail. Follow your guide along this historic route, which was once used by postmen travelling between villages. Take the time to admire the spectacular view from a mountaintop lookout at a height of 985 feet (300 meters). The trail then takes you through the village of Serra Tramuntana, where you can discover Arabic influences on local architecture and learn about the town's heritage.

As your hike ends, you're rewarded with a hidden beach far off the tourist trail. Sit down to enjoy a satisfying lunch of local Majorcan dishes and drinks, including empanadas and cocas de trampò (flatbread with vegetables). Finish off your meal with desserts including ensaimada (a sweet pastry) and Majorcan almond cake.

After satisfying your taste buds, make the most of your time at the secluded beach by enjoying the sun and sand, or going for a dip in the cool water. As the day comes to a close, board a bus to be taken back to Palma de Mallorca.

Our guide, Kathrin, was very knowledgeable about the area. She was very cheerful, flexible regarding needs (though we had an email 10 weeks ago confirming that our gluten-free needs were not a problem, this information had not been conveyed to Kathrin, who had to scramble to find appropriate food). That said, she was also adept at dealing with a variety of athletic levels. This was particularly important given that the hike was billed as “moderate,” when in fact it was much more strenuous. It was a nine-mile hike involving relatively steep climbs at the beginning and end, which were challenging for some members of the group. Fortunately, we didn’t wear sandals but a caution to wear strong walking shoes would be a good idea for future participants. Also, the admonition to bring a bottle of water is insufficient; a liter-sized bottle was needed.
