Really enjoyable hotel. Multiple ways to walk into town. Along the road, through the museum gardens or along the river. Great location, great ambience in the hotel.

Enjoyed our stay at No.1 Guest House
Really friendly and helpful staff, beautiful old building and great location, only 5-10 min walk from shops, etc. Old building means floors are creaky so you hear a lot of noise when other guests/ staff move about the hotel, in the early morning. On site car parking which meant we could leave car for duration of our visit. (pre booked) Some nice features like pantry, bath and shower in en suite, record library, Roberts radio in room. Would come back and stay again!

The best of the best
By far the best hotel I have stayed at in the UK. Bit on the pricey side, but easily worth it. Accessible location, wonderful amenities, had a great nights sleep and a wonderful time in York. Staff were very friendly, even gave me a few sightseeing tips. I just wish no.1 had more locations all over the UK!

The best hotel in York
Beautiful hotel in a quiet location with easy access to the centre of York. We received excellent service throughout our stay and thoroughly recommend the breakfasts and afternoon tea. Every detail has been thought of, from the pantry to record players in the rooms. We really enjoyed relaxing in the bar with some lovely cocktails and can’t wait to return. Thank you!

Charming bed and breakfast short walk to the walled in City of York. Great shower. Bed wasn’t comfortable.

Loved No1s aesthetic, friendly staff, and of course the pantry (these extras really count!). We have stayed at a few pet friendly hotels and with a £25 per night fee (not per stay as stated on Expedia) to stay with our dog, I think a proper dog bed and dog shampoo & conditioner could have been provided. We had these provided at other hotels with lower dog fees. The dog treats were a good touch though! Another thing that could have been improved is the level of cleaning in the room and bar areas. Expected higher attention to detail at this price point.

Why stay in a boring everyday hotel when you can stay somewhere unique? Loads of character, great staff, an amazing comfy bed & a pantry for those late night munchies. Highly recommend.

5 Star at a minimum!
Incredible stay, beautiful hotel which is so family friendly. They catered to our one year old so well by providing age appropiate toys and books, she had the best time! The room was stunning, clean and stylish. Easily the nicest hotel we've every stayed in. The service was perfect and they were so friendly and efficient. We xouldnt have asked for more!

A lovely experience. Very unique property and rare to find staff selected and trained to be a natural combination of friendly, relaxed but also highly efficient. Of all the hotels we’ve visited only Gleneagles in Scotland has achieved that level in our opinion. Great experience all round

Perfect two night stay
From the moment Dave collected our bags from the station (complimentary service), we knew we were in for a treat at No1. The room was lovely and probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. Plus the linen and pillows were sumptuous. The room was ultra clean and the bathroom products were great quality. Sleeping at the front of the hotel means you can hear traffic noise (I’m a light sleeper) but the road wasn’t constantly busy. The staff, ambiance and decor were excellent. All infused with the friendliness of York. It really was a perfect two night stay, 10 mins walk from the Minster.
