Average for a 4 star property. Way too hot in room and no way of properly regulating the temperature. Window didn’t open and no AC. We had to just leave the room and go for walks as it got so hot and stuffy. Told the receptionists and they informed us that the cooling systems had been turned off for the winter. No suggestion of how to resolve the issue and no real apology. The mission and vision of Mercure hotels is plastered all over the walls and it says that guest experience is paramount. Unfortunately, that is not what we experienced here. 18 quid for breakfast also seems too much for what was on offer.

Stayed many time for the snooker at the crucible so it’s the perfect location. The spa and swimming pool are now not included as not part of hotel anymore. So not happy I wanted to have a quick swim and had to cough up £10 each day. The pool and changing rooms are looking very tired as is the seating area in the bar. A refurb is hopefully not far away. In general though it’s a nice hotel and would stay again

I cannot review this property as, despite numerous confirmation bookings, they did not honour my reservation. Allegedly there were problems wtih some of the rooms, which they had ample opportunity to communicate to me prior to arrival but instead they waited until I arrived at 8pm, kept me hanging around for over an hour without any information, then told me to go to another hotel which they had booked which was a) vastly inferior quality and b) in a terrible location, when I had chosen the Mercure for its location. They arranged transport but no other recompense. They seemed unwilling to admit their problems and had no excuse for not notifying me of the issue in advance. Had they done so I would have cancelled the booking and left Sheffield earlier in the day. But at 8pm on arrival I had few options. Also, if they knew they had problems wiht the room before my arrival they could have arranged a solution ready for my arrival rather than having to ring round to find me a room at short notice. WHilst i accept problems happen their handling of it was inexcusable and unprofessional and thoughtless. I was considerably inconvenienced, they were disingenuous and uninformative and ill-prepared. I will never stay at a Mercure again.

This hotel is in a great location for the centre of Sheffield. The tram to the Sheffield Arena is a ten minute walk away. The breakfast was quite good. Not so many channels on the TV though. The Ego restaurant next door is very good.

Location is perfect. The rest terrible. The checkin was bad as the receptionist kept me waiting, not even acknowledging me. The hotel offers a discount for a nearby park. Which you only find out after you have parked your as the discount is shown at the reception desk. I don’t understand this. The final nail in the coffin was the mattress in the room. It was terrible for a high quality hotel, the matters was of a very poor standard.

Mercure St Paul’s, Sheffield review
It was a very nice hotel, clean, modern, welcoming etc etc and made us feel exceptional really enjoyed the bar and the pool area as well. It was an amazing time the only downside is our room didn’t have climate control but when flagged up they offered to swap us room to a different one that had this.

Great family stay
The whole staff team are a credit to the hotel and go above and beyond the call of duty. The room was great bar the very strange noise that kept me awake all night. Food was lovely as is the pool which the kids absolutely loved.
