Chambre exiguë, à se demander si ce n'était pas une chambre de bonne reconvertie (3 m de large sur 4 m de long), eau bouillante pour la douche à 2 reprises (2 matinées de suite) : merci pour les migraines de la journée ! Pas de wifi dans les chambres : nécessité de se rendre dans les salons et à l'accueil situés au rez de chaussée pour se connecter à internet avec smartphone et pc portable.

What a shame ..if only somebody cared;
What a shame ... Invest a little on decor and either more staff or refocus the staff on customer service and this incredible building could feel worth it's expensive room rate. Pretty much every initial impression was poor ..reception abrupt with guests, no offer of bag drop or early check in, bar man unwelcoming and potentially overworked.. Room could've been stunning, quirky space with massive windows facing 3 directions giving incredible views from 5th floor across the beach, Victorian tram and the area... Decor ok, sofa in the window, bathroom big space but on one of the hottest days of 22 so far only one window opened a small way....but wouldn't stay open! I get putting A/c in a building this big would be tortuous but windows that open or even some kind of fan and all of a sudden it's all about the views!!! From my experiences this stay it seems that all the ingredients are there for a hotel that celebrates its history and character but is lacking the vision, budget or commitment to excelling customer experience from its leadership that could make it so special. My partner's comment...'if they gave me a free nights stay here I wouldn"t come back'. Maybe this hotel works financially for Brittania as it is.Shame.
If only I couldve opened any of the windows..stunning

Terrible room had to ask for a move dirty towels dirty grout in bathroom dirty marks on wall bedroom window did not open and husband has asthma moved to another room still dirty grout in bathroom food under bed dirty dusty light fitting and old window that only opened an inch won’t stay again

Sea view room with views out of 2 windows was lovely, the bed was huge along with the room which wadl very spacious (it was a family room ) though there was only 2 of us. For the price, more than happy. Its not 5 star, but more than adequate.

the clifton hotel Scarborough
lovely hotel, 3 time in two years. Lovely lady on reception offered us ground floor room due to disability. fantastic sea view's with friendly helpful staff. Hotel building is a bit run down but for its age thats to be expected.

Stayed for one night, happy with the accommodation, nothing to complain about. Enjoyed going up and down in the lift, we were on the fourth floor. That was a experience. Breckfeast was excellent. Will be booking another night there,, but not on the fourth floor..

Staff were lovely but the hotel needs a big upgrade. Looking very tired and old fashioned.Room was very basic considering the price we paid. We were given a room with a sea view that was actually on the ground floor with two doors facing right in the middle of the car park where people were sitting drinking. No complementary toiletries which was an issue as we didn’t bring shampoo or shower gel as every hotel we’ve been to supplies small amounts of essential toiletries. Only 2 coffees, 2 teas and 4 tiny milkd for the entire 24 hours stay. Bed very hard with one pillow each. Stains in toilet when we arrived. Scarborough was beautiful but we wouldn’t choose the same hotel if we came again

The location was good as were the views. But, the hotel was very "tired" overall, with our room, although reasonably clean, being of a poor state of repair, ie cracks in the wall, damp/water on window coll, window frames rotting/paint bubbling..... The toilet floor was not clean and the toilet seat was broken. Not very impressed at all.

Very poor
Hotel is in chronic need of modernising and upgrading. No hot water due to a boiler leak. Bedding was clean and fresh but the room had a damp musty smell. Toiletries provided were pathetic. I wouldn’t use this hotel again.

Tired in need of a revamp
We booked a double room for 2 nights. The room we were given was a single room with a mid sized bed pushed against a wall. We paid well above the going rate for this accomodation. I asked to be moved, and to be fair, we were given a larger room. But it was still shoddy. I expected more. The staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was OK. I dont feel the hotel was as advertised.

Grossly overpriced…….
I always say you get what you pay for ! Unfortunately you shouldn’t really be charging £150 a night for a £50 a night room even if there is a concert on over the road ! When I pay £150 a night I excepted a bit better room then I got .. very small( only really just room for the double bed ..mould in the bathroom , and the shower gel dispenser full of water !

Great location, clean and nice staff. It’s a Britannia hotel and so don’t expect luxury but it’s fine and is in a great location if visiting the Open Air Theatre. Bar is nice and breakfast OK. If you want to part on site, book early!

The Hotel is in need of updating, the rooms are very basic. breakfast wasn't the best, no refresh coffee, it was from a machine. there was no complementary toiletries in the room. but it was clean and tidy. i was just expecting a little bit more for the price we paid for 1 night.

The room was clean if rather basic for what we paid for the room and the staff were friendly, the breakfast was ok and with a good choice but the hotel is in serious need of updating and the cleaning was not of a high standard , the lift was inadequate and antiquated and the room itself old fashioned and the toilet and sink both had issues in the room there was also a really annoying noise that kept us awake just outside the room also . I have to say that I would never stay at this hotel again just a bit disappointed for what we paid.

It was ok, the add said breakfast included. It wasn’t. Also a bit mislead with the parking. The car park is always booked up, and it’s damn hard to get a place on the road. Moreover, even if you do. I got this disk I had to mess with the times on it, move the car etc.. Was a pain. Wish I’d have been told about the scratch card. Would have had to pay, but less messing.
