Cozy Mountaintop Retreat

Stay in a cozy log cabin located on Shaffer Mountain, a perfect retreat from a busy life. In Bedford County this is located on a flyway for migrating birds. The Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society (APAS) has a Hawkwatch site nearby that is open to visitors during migration

The cabin has an open plan downstairs with a great room, kitchen and view of Bedford County plus a quiet bedroom with a full bed; a small loft has twin beds.

The kitchen includes a stove, microwave plus dishes and cookware.
There is a small sofa and fireplace in main room as well as a bathroom with shower on the main floor. Internet with Netflix and Youtube TV is available. (streaming can be touchy with the remote location)

This location is close to the town of Bedford, local antique shops, the Allegheny Front Hawkwatch as noted and miles of hiking trails. There is also a fire pit at the cabin for relaxing in the evening

My husband and I wanted to take a few days away for our anniversary. This cabin was well worth going to. The view from the deck was expansive. The first evening we sat on the deck overlooking the valley. We watched as several downpours passed over portions of the valley, sun shining in other places, 5 rainbows and lighting...quite the nature show. Beds were comfortable. All you need in the kitchen. No airconditioning and our first night was very warm but the owner supplies large fans that really helped. The location was private and instructions to the cabin were great. Its not far from restaurants and area attractions like the Jon Bennet Tavern, the Flight 93 Memorial. We also ate a lunch at the Horn of Plenty restaurant. All recommended. This cabin rental was very nice and we will consider it again in the future!

Took my wife for a weekend for our anniversary. The first day we were met with some heavy fog, so our view was obscured; however, the next day when the fog cleared we were amazed at the beautiful view! The cabin is very secluded and peaceful, clean and cozy. The cabin was close enough to Bedford, Pa., so we drove there for dinner and enjoyed some of the local scenery. Overall, very satisfied!

I've been using VRBO for quite some time! This one one of the best ones I've rent d. Definitely underated view. You could see for 10 miles of beautiful mountains. Do yourself a favor and rent this place!

Kim, we absolutely loved your cozy cabin and its ever-changing, spellbinding view. We spotted so much wildlifeā€”our first glimpse of a partially white deer, turtles along the road, and birds serenading us daily. The summer garden, lush with ferns, adds a magical touch to the cabin's charm. We canā€™t wait to return and experience the beauty of a different season.

My husband and I had a lovely stay. The gorgeous view alone would have been plenty, but the entire place was cozy, well-furnished, comfortable, clean, charming, and quiet. Had a great time trying to spot birds in the trees with kindly provided binocularsā€”which was just the kind of low-key activity we were looking for. It exceeded our expectations.

May 1st - May 4th, 2025Surprise Get Away Birthday Weekend For My FiancƩ Linda. This Cozy Cabin Checked All The Boxes We Needed.Secluded, Peaceful, Unplugged.The View Was Spectacular. The Cabin Exceeded Expectations. We Enjoyed Our Guests Stopping By Each Day.Our Female Cardinal, Who Loved Pecking A Our Car Side Mirrors And Windows Each Morning And The Back Deck Window Of The Cabin Seeing Her Reflection. The 3 Bumble Bees Who Visited Us On The Back Deck Each Day. The Wild Turkey Walking Through The Yard On Occasion. The Woodpecker Enjoys His Feast Of Trees, And Of Course The Baby Snapping Turtle We Found Trying To Cross The Road, And Wanted Absolutely No Help From Anyone Trying To Get Him To Safety.Linda Loved Her Stay, It Made For A Wonderful Few Days Away And Said The Worst Part Was Leaving.Thank You Again For Allowing Us To Stay.Very Much Appreciated!

The cabin was cozy, quaint, complete, and thoroughly adequate for the two of us. The view!!! Wow. And there is just something about mountain air, so refreshing. We spent two days at the Allegheny Front Hawk Watch, a true natural wonder during migration season. In four hours the group counted over 400 hawks and eagles. The group of hawk watchers who gather there regularly were friendly and welcoming, offering helpful insights about the migration, and included us in the counting work.

We've never been to a place so secluded and peaceful. To boot the view was beautiful. We were concerned about no A/C but realized being so high on the mountain afforded continuous cool breezes keeping us comfortable. Wishing the master bed was larger as it kept for tight sleeping quarters for us. Overall...so pleased. Already booked for next year!!!

This place is fantastic. The location and view can't be beat. The solitude and peacefulness are more than one could hope for. Out golden retriever, Jake, loved the woods and the freedom as he and Kath hiked the trails. Would love to see this again with the fall foliage.

This location has a beautiful view and secluded to enjoy privacy and quiet. I was a little concerned about no a/c as we had a heat wave during our stay but there was always a breeze going so it was very comfortable to sleep with windows open and a fan on. The only reason for not giving all 5 stars is due to some minor things (missing blow dryer, empty soap containers and blown lightbulbs). The host was contacted and feedback was well received. This was likely caused due to a change in housekeepers. Also, the host had very good response time even though she was out of the country. Overall the trip was just what we wantedā€¦. Time to get away from the daily grind, relax and reset.
