“Good hotel, far from the main action. Some services are too expensive.”
The good: * The hotel is very new and is in very good condition. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with a good view of the ocean. * The hotel staff is very polite and helpful. * The pool area is good too. Very good gym next to the pool, as well as a sauna and a jacuzzi. * The beach is huge, beautiful and just across the road in front of the hotel. The hotel staff at the beach are very helpful at providing towels, chairs and umbrellas. * The food at the hotel is fairly good, but a little expensive. If you want a cheaper breakfast, there is a good bakery (padaria), a few blocks from the hotel on the same road. * The hotel is quiet and peaceful, and the beach is not too crowded. The bad: * The hotel phone is outrageously expensive. Even local calls are very very expensive. International calls are a total rip-off. * There is some lack of attention to detail: when we arrived the room had no trash can and the phone did not work, not even to call the reception. They fixed the phone quickly, but left behind pieces of cable insulation and other electrical repair items on the bathroom floor. It took a full day for them to clean this up and to bring in a trash can. * There is a wired Internet connection in each room. It is not too expensive, but the speed and quality of the connection are very irregular. Sometimes it was excruciatingly slow, like in the old days of dial-up connections. There are a few PCs available for guests in the main lobby, with 20 free minutes per day.
“very expensive”
The hotel and pool were great, it was nice. The staff was very accommodating. The language barrier was a chalenge. It was extremely expensive.
“Location, location, location ...”
Right in front of the beach, great room, great swimming pool. I rated quality of hotel service 3 because we received a 5:30 AM wake up call that we didn't ask for. A very disturbing call on our first day of vacation and after a long flight. I rated confort of the room as 4 because the air conditioning was noisy.
“Can't wait to go back”
Everything was perfect during my stay....
“much better than staying in Rio”
THIS HOTEL IS ABOUT A 40 MINUTE DRIVE ALONG THE COAST FROM RIO,I HAVE STAYED HERE 5 TIMES NOW,,AND ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO MY RETURN,,THE BEACH IS VERY LONG BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAN,AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT CROWDED,IT HAS A PAVED PROMENADE ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE BEACH FOR CYCLING, JOGGING OR ROLLER BLADING,,,THE HOTEL HAS A LOVELY OUT DOOR SWIMMING POOL AS WELL AS A VERY ACCEPTABLE GYM..
“Nice to relax, but there is better in Rio for that price”
The location of the hotel is nice, in front of the beach but the surrounding neighborhood does not offer anything. No nice restaurants, cafes, bars or shopping in walking distance. The hotel rooms are very nice and comfortable, all with a view overlooking the beach. Nice big swimming pool and 2 Jacuzzis in the garden. Sun beds around the pool are limited and when the hotel is full, you will have to go early to ensure a sun bed for the day. For me the biggest downside of this hotel were the poor eating facilities. The restaurant near the pool is particularly overpriced for the quality of food you receive. I ordered a small pizza that came to my table partly burned, dry and was charged 50 Reais for it. The room service menu is very confusing. You can tick that you would like a continental breakfast but then you cannot define the details such as having the option of choosing between several types of milk and breads. Instead of ordering the room service order form you just hang on your door, it’s better to call them when you have specific requests. Check out was a disaster. When I arrived to check out there was already a line of 4 people and soon we were 12 waiting to check out. Behind the desk, only one lady with a training badge, who was doing her best but who could obviously not manage on her own. Another lady came to assist, but only checked out Starwood Members. Many people waiting in line started to complain and only after a 25 min wait, I was able to be checked out.
“No unpleasant surprises”
Sheaton Barra is a high quality hotel. It is very well designed - almost all rooms have superb ocean views and the room layout is more imaginative than most hotels (giving an "open plan" feel) with good use of space. The hotel is staffed by good english speakers (not always the case in Brazil) which tends to make your stay hassel free. I think that the best compliment that you can give a hotel for its service is "I don't remember" (because bad service always stands out and good service should be there but not so intrusive as to be noticed). The Sheraton is like that. About the only thing that I would like to see changed is the pool hours (which are more restrictive than most hotels).
“Hospitality and Customer Service Sorely Lacking”
The management of this hotel has turned me against ever staying at a Sheraton Hotel again!
“Excellent Hotel Choice”
The Sheraton Barra is an excellent hotel choice in Rio. It is a little bit far from the main attractions (El Christo, Pao de Asucar), but it is on the ocean in a very nice neighborhood. THe hotel is clean and quiet. I look forward to staying there again on my next visit to Rio.
“Great quality, reasonable priced”
Good hotel, great pool and leisure area. The rooms have a large size and service was very good overal.
