Just stay elsewhere in Keystone

Publié le 22 juil. 2014
Les + : The location was very close to Mount Rushmore.
Les - : The pool could be improved, obviously.
Situation : It's a short drive (5 minutes) from Mount Rushmore, and a 10 minute walk from downtown Keystone.
I'm glad the pool has been removed from the description. Like many others, I booked this hotel because my 4-year-old would enjoy the swimming pool, but it hasn't had a pool for a long time--the pool area is blocked and taped off. There was a sign at check-in stating the pool and hot tub were not working and "we apologize to those who booked through 3rd parties." I would have gone elsewhere immediately, but my husband's entire family had also made reservations and were trickling in at different times, so we couldn't relocate without major disruption. The rooms themselves were okay, and the wi-fi was passable. The morning office lady and the cleaning staff were polite and friendly. I'd still recommend staying elsewhere, because I feel this place lied to us. I shouldn't have to call every hotel I book on Expedia to make sure they actually have the amenities they claim, but I probably will from now on.

Nothing fancy, serve the purpose, no much complain. Very close to Mt. Rushmore. No much option in breakfast.

The price was good for the area. Many other local hotels were rather spendy.

Road trip 2014

Les + : Everything I wanted. Easy access, good nights sleep and would go back again.
Situation : Repeat of prior comments, easy access to shops and Mount Rushmore.
Late a arrival, check in was easy. Desk person was very helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Easy access to strip mall, within walking distance. Pull out of driveway and Mount Rushmore only short distance away. Rooms are clean, plenty of room, nice stay.

No pool

Publié le 8 juil. 2014
The location is really great. But that is all. We booked this hotel because it had a pool, but when we got there found it had been drained. The beds were the worst we felt every spring. The pillows also smelled really bad.

Outside garbages were full, there was NO pool even though it says the was and in the morning at breakfast there was only one person on to take care of the breakfast area and the front desk so wasn't much for food.

Recommend to someone you hate

I've stayed in probably 200 different hotel rooms over the years but have never stayed in a Super 8. Lesson learned. The room itself was fine and clean... but.... we booked through Expedia and the front desk sent us to a smoking room. We would rather sleep in the car in the parking lot than sleep in a smoking room. When we went to the front desk the manager argued that no one should ever use Expedia because they always book you into the cheapest room which in this case was a smoking room. I showed them my "non-smoking" room receipt from Expedia and after 10 minutes of arguing, we had our non smoking room. An hour later the kids are looking for the pool. Turns out they haven't had a pool in Two years. Funny that the Web site says they have a pool and hot tub. As we went to check out, the had a $5 extra charge on our bill for our non- smoking room. They wanted to up charge us even though I had showed them my receipt showing I paid for a non smoking room. After 20 minutes of arguing with the manager over $5 in front of the lobby full of people eating their cereal and toast (that's all they serve), the manager conceded the $5 grumbling how he's tired of paying for Expedia ' mistakes. Lesson learned indeed. Oh... And the pizza place next door serves still frozen hot wings and half raw pizza. Don't go there either.
