A pleasant stay on the Isle of Man

Publié le 18 août 2014
Les + : Friendly staff, location, ample and free parking; free Wi-Fi
Les - : Shower head needs repair; bathroom very small and cramped
Situation : Isle of Man is an ideal family holiday spot; steam and electric railways are nearby, and nothing on the island is far away or hard to reach.
This hotel is located a few blocks off the bayside promenade in Douglas, the island's capital city. My room had a view of the bay and lighthouse and was located in a reasonably pleasant neighborhood on a parklike square. Ample streetside parking is available if you are bringing an automobile. Room was adequate; a bit small but comfortable, but the shower head in the bathroom was broken. Food both for breakfast and dinner was adequate; fairly limited menu, but satisfying. Very friendly staff.

Douglas

Publié le 16 juin 2014
Les + : The staff are lovely. Its a guest house, not hotel as stated.
Les - : Bring it up to the 21st century.
Situation : There is nothing to do other than go on a bus tour around the island. Location of hotel is really only for the very fittest up a very long steep hill
Its a very old fashioned large house converted into bedrooms, on top of an extremely high hill. Theres nothing to do there as tourist session starts 22 june.

Was recently booked stayed but due to disabled mother we upgraded to the Arrandale appartments worth the change and upgrade cost. Would recommend to friends and family. Owner was very nice and she could not do enough for us.

Up the hill from the beach

Publié le 25 sept. 2013
Les + : Nice and clean, close to most things with a great breakfast.
Les - : The reception didn't seem to be staffed that often.
Situation : Location was great. Good restaurants close, as was the promenade. Buses to airport very close and the ferry was not too far either.
We could see the bay from our room. Shower stall instead of the hard to get in to tub. Very good breakfast with many choices. We really enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is a bit out of the way—about a 20-minute walk from the ferry terminal and from most good restaurants, some of it steeply uphill. However, it is located in a very quiet area. It is a modest establishment, but my room was quite satisfactory, except for the absence of a table. Breakfast was served speedily by an alert young woman. I enjoyed my stay here.

A great stay in the Arrandale

Publié le 18 sept. 2013
Les + : Friendly staff and good food
Situation : About 15 minutes walk from Douglas seafront and Villa Marina.
We stayed in the Arrandale for a week while we were holidaying in the IoM. We chose it mainly because of the reviews and they weren't wrong. Good points: very clean, breakfasts were excellent with good quality food well cooked, staff very friendly and helpful, close enough to sea front to walk (but all uphill coming back), evening meal available if required without booking, great power shower, friendly bar and place to sit when you're not in room. The poached eggs at breakfast are perfect and I couldn't resist having them most mornings. Give the porridge a go at least once as it was also very good. Rose and Theo are lovely and friendly - we were given a guide book on check in which was indispensable, and The was a mine of information about the island. Hutchinson Square park would be a nice place to sit in good weather. If you don't have a car it's worth buying a 3,4 or 7 day travel pass from the tourist information centre at the ferry terminal which gets you on the steam trains, electric trains, buses and horse drawn trams.
