“Belle vue sur Sorrento, mais ...”

L'hôtel fonctionne essentiellement avec des groupes. Difficile de pouvoir y manger car la carte est très réduite. Quant au soir d'arrivée, pas de restauration du tout avec un mariage et les nuisances sonores qui vont avec. Le mauvais fonctionnement des serrures oblige à claquer la porte et donc à faire du bruit.

l'hotel est agréable, avec un côté un peu désuet. le personnel est très aimable. nous avons apprécié le petit bus gratuit qui amène à sorrente.l'usage du petit frigo de la chambre n'est pas gratuit et cela nous a surpris

très belle vue, personnel très sympathique,repas de très bonne qualité, petit déjeuner aussi, j'espère que pour l'année prochaine ils vont repeindre la partie des murs face à la piscine hôtel a recommander pour des familles très bon conseil pour les visites

visite de la presqu'ile, de la cote amalfitaine, de capri, mais aussi pompei, herculanum, paestum tous les paysages et les sites sont splendides

“great staff - nice room”

Overall very nice but 3 euros per night to use the room safe was a little steep. The traffic thru Sorrento was terrible. Took us an hour to get thru town( 2-3 km). There is a back way that avoids the town.

If you go definitely do the Amelfi drive - just spectacular. We did Pompei and I love antiquities but I was disappointed. The ruins are just that. I would recommend getting a book and reading about Pompei. Take the ferry to Capri instead.

“Excellent service”

The hotel is set high in the hills above Sorrento which means that you are reliant on the hotel bus service or the public bus. However, that worked very well for us. The hotel booked a taxi for us from and to Naples airport and we could also arrange a number of trips through the hotel. The staff were excellent and the food in the restaurant was wonderful - excellent quality with lots of choice. The pool area was very clean and we had amazing weather for the entire 2 week stay. Would definitely recommend the hotel to others.

“Excellent hotel”

Great location, clean and spacious rooms (we stayed in the villa, which is away from the main hotel but quiet and with excellent rooms). Terrific view from the pool and terrace. Friendly, helpful staff were always attentive and the pool area is clean and tidy. With it's terrific location and view, I really couldn't fault the place. Stay there, you'll love it.

Staying anywhere along the Nastro Verde is going to be good. So much to visit nearby - Amalfi coast and all the towns along it are astonishing, Pompeii and Herculaneum (don't miss that - it's small but amazing) are incredibly absorbing, Vesuvius is worth the climb. There's so much in the area that can make for a full and interesting visit. Plus, the people are friendly and helpful. Even the drivers seem to have calmed down a bit since our last visit!

August was very, very hot. One of the local tour guides recommended Sept/Oct for visits to Pompeii (which you could easily spend a couple of days at) as it can be blistering in there.

“fine as a base if you dont mind the distance”

we travelled with children and hadnt booked transfers,so finding the hotel gave us a few problems, but we took the bus from the airport to Sorrento tenEuros each, and then there is a bus via n. verde which is a couple of Euro which drops you right outside the hotel! had we known all that before it would have helped us. We were given a room in the villa romita behind the main hotel, which was fine although you hear everyone coming and going! the pool was alot smaller than we had expected but it was fine for the children, after 4pm the pool area is very shady though the views are stunning from hotel. the drinks in the hotel bar are expensive and you have to buy a bottle of water to get the cable to get the fridge on in your room! we ate in the restaurant only once for dinner, the food was ok, and breakfast is buffet style but nothing spectacular! the free transfer bus to and from the hotel to Sorento has to be booked the day before, and there is limited space on the minibus, so you need to book early, it runs around every hour, however there is also the local bus which runs every hour too.. the staff were friendly, the hotel is out of the way but all in all we enjoyed the trip, be prepared for lots of walking and take plenty of money and research the area

the local busses are good but make sure you pre-buy your ticket you cannot pay onboard, and the train runs to pompeii and herculanium where you can then get a bus to versuvius, remember there is an additional cost to enter the crater

Restauration

behind the Hotel there is the town of St Agita which was much larger than we expected and we ate out there every night as it is five minutes walk from the hotel and has some lovely restaurants bars shops and supermarkets

. the beaches are mostly private and cost to go on varying in price, there are a couple of free beaches one in sorrento tiny and always full, though and another nicer one in Meta just a short train ride away and a walk of course!

“Not what expected but very pleasant anyway”

The Hermitage Hotel was what I expected, but I was disappointed to find we weren't staying there, but in an old villa some 5 minutes walk up hill. We were on the second floor with stair only access, so it was hard going. However, once over the initial disappointment and having to walk backwards and forwards to access the restaurant and hotel facilities, the good food and fantastic views compensated for the distance we had to walk. The hotel was in a pretty spot, but it was a good 15 minutes bus ride from the centre and the courtesy bus ran at random times during the day, making day trips difficult and time consuming. It would be beneficial to manage the travellers expectations and make them aware of what accommodation they were getting before they arrive. I didn't see any pictures of the accommodation in the villa and therefore expected to be in the main hotel depicted by the photographs advertised. I was told this was much more expensive, but there should be a clear distinction of the two different types of accommodation and the prices, to offer a choice. Overall, we had a good holiday, a great view of Vesuvius and good quality food and made the most of it despite the difficulties.

To make the most of Sorrento, and have easier access to transport, it would be beneficial to stay in the centre rather than up towards St Agata. Although the hotels in this region have good views of the mountains and of Vesuvius, travel is difficult and time consuming. I would not recommend driving as the roads are narrow, dangerous and winding and traffic is heavy and parking very limited and expensive. On foot never depend on using a Zebra crossing safely, as they are not observed as they are in the UK.

To get to Sorrento you have to fly to Naples Airport and Naples is a pretty disgusting place, with rubbish piled high and treacherous roads. The number of vagrants is quite intimidating and we were victims of one of the many professional pick pockets! I would avoid travelling through the centre at all costs and make every effort to pick up the bus from Naples Airport, although the last one leaves at 7.30 pm. The only alternative to this is the train, which is very basic but cheap and efficient - the only problem is you have to travel through the centre to get to it. If this is the only way available to you, I would suggest taking a taxi which although expensive is probably a lot safer that getting the bus and having to walk from the bus stop to the train station.

Once in Sorrento, Pompeii and Herculaneum are easily accessed by train which is very cheap and trains are around every 30 minutes. Boats to Capri and Ischia are expensive but worth the trip, although there are around 100 steps to walk down to get to the harbour. There are shuttle buses to and from the harbour for around 1 Euro. Tickets for buses have to be purchased prior to travel, which can be a bit of a pain, but they are pretty reasonable and reliable once you find out where to catch them. This was often the most difficult part as not may Italians spoke English and if they did, they only seemed to know their own bus routes! An easier option is to buy an organised tour, but these are much more expensive than finding your own way round.

“perfect base for dorrento and surrounding area”

Just back from Grand Heritage S'Agata Sorrento, It is the perfect base to explore the area,At first i wasnt sure about not being in the center of Sorrento but i am so glad we were just outside as the traffic noise in Sorrento is very loud with all the mopeds ,The hotel runs a shuttle service into Sorrento and back all day so it is no problem getting around ,From Sorrento all areas can be reached ,Trains to Pompei,Herculaneum ,Naples and Boats to Capri ,Lots of buses going down the amalfi coast both public and private excursions.The hotel is beauiful with 4*service .They cant do enough for you.Orders were taken quickly in the restaurant and we never waited long for food.The menu offers for all tastes authentic Italien or steak , fries salald etc. You dont pay for anything till the end of the week so no need to keep your purse with you. A truely lovely place with lovely people

prices are expensive in Italy, so buy clothes before you go , shop around for food and drink , in the main plazas it is very high prices so nip down the back streets , expect to pay 6 euros for a pint and 4 euros for a glass of wine , A meal out will start at 40 euros

“Great Value in Sorrento”

We loved our hotel in Sorrento. Fabulous view of the Bay of Naples and the town of Sorrento. The room was beautifully furnished and equiped. The facilities and the staff were great. The only drawback was the location. It was exceptionally hard to find. We asked a tourist info for help and they could not help. Insist on specfic directions from the hotel and you will have a great stay. the staff was super friendly and helpful.
